Ebanie Bridges has showed off her nasty looking eye injury, following a brilliant fight with Shannon Courtenay on Saturday night.
During the week there was a spotlight shone on the women’s WBA world bantamweight title showdown between the two relatively inexperienced fighters, with Courtenay criticising Bridges for being a ‘lingerie model.’
The Australian did everything in her power on the Conor Benn vs Sammy Vargas undercard to prove that she was a lot more than a ‘model.’
Bridges and Courtenay were involved in an absolute war of a fight for 10 rounds, with the English fighter coming out on top with a unanimous decision win, with the judges scoring it 97-94 98-92 98-92.
In the final couple of rounds the referee might have thought about stopping the fight, with Bridges eye looking extremely swollen and the maths teacher even telling her corner “I can’t see” at one point.
The 34-year-old took to social media on Saturday night to show off her injury and it’s no wonder she was struggling with her sight.
Super-featherweight world champion Mikaela Mayer felt she needed to defend Bridges in the build up to the fight, following the criticism from Courtenay.
The American took to social media to say, “If I had t*ts like Ebanie Bridges I’d be steppin on that scale in some bomb ass lingerie too!
“I wear what makes ME feel sexy & confident and she has the right to do the same. “Be sexy, don’t be sexy, be sexy but not right now” sh*t we can’t win!”
But in the aftermath it seems like there was no ill feeling between the two boxers who fought on Saturday, with the pair showing respect in the aftermath.
The loss was Bridges first, in just her sixth fight, she proved that she has the heart and the skill to challenge for a title again.
