Paris Saint-Germain youngster Xavi Simons has shown he has a talent for more than just football after wowing fans with his proficiency at languages.
Former Barcelona midfielder Simons was once tipped for greatness at the Nou Camp, with some viewing him as a long-term replacement for club legends Xavi and Andres Iniesta.
However, the Dutchman would leave Barcelona in 2019 to join PSG after failing to agree a new contract with the Catalan club.
The 18-year-old made his senior debut for PSG in February of last year and has gone on to play seven first-team games for the French giants this season.
Simons appears to have settled well in France and has already picked up the language.
He is now able to speak four different languages at the age of 18: French, English, Spanish and his native Dutch.
A compilation video uploaded to YouTube which shows Simons speaking all four languages has now gone viral on social media, with fans impressed with the youngster’s intelligence.
One fan commented: “As a French native speaker, his French is quite stunning.”
Another added: “So much quality for this guy, both on and off the pitch! IMPRESSIVE!”
A third wrote: “This is so impressive, how does he even have the accents and pronunciation at 18?”
Simons, who now has 3.9 million followers on Instagram, made his first Ligue 1 start for PSG in their 1-0 win over Rennes earlier this month.
Head coach Mauricio Pochettino says it is important that Simons and other fringe players at the Parc des Prince are given enough opportunities to impress this season.
“Yes, it’s always important for us to have different players and to play them,” Pochettino said.
“We have Xavi Simons, and he had to make his debut as a starter to show us that he has a place in the first team of PSG.
“Many players have problems at the moment, so it was an opportunity for us to change and try new ones.”
