Conor McGregor broke his leg as he lost to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 and the slow motion replay of the moment the injury happened shows how horrific it was.
McGregor was looking for retribution against Poirier, having lost to his rival in their second fight earlier in the year in a second round TKO.
The Irishman started well at the beginning of the first round but when the fight went to the mat it was Poirier who was on top.
McGregor managed to get back to his feet just before the end of the round and when he threw a punch, that was missed, his leg collapsed under him.
The former two weight UFC champion was clearly in a lot of pain as he sat on the ground and it’s easy to see why from the slow motion, beware this is pretty gruesome.
Back in April, on the UFC 261 card, that saw Kamaru Usman beat Jorge Masvidal for the second time, Chris Weidman suffered a similarly shocking injury.
Just seconds into his fight with Uriah Hall, Weidman threw a leg kick that was checked by Hall and broke his leg on impact.
The former middleweight championĀ stepped back onto the broken legĀ in similar fashion to McGregor on Saturday night.
The build up to UFC 264’s main event had been full of animosity and the ending of the fight was fuelled by karma.
Ahead of their third meeting, The Notorious had claimed his opponent would leave on a stretcher, telling Ariel Helwani on BT Sport, “Dustin’s going out in a stretcher. That’s my prediction. He’s going out of this fight in a stretcher.
“…I’m not jumping the gun. … But he’s going out in a stretcher. … Early.”
The Irishman has been known as ‘Mystic Mac’ for gettinpredictionsitions for his own fights scarily spot on at times, but on Saturday it was him leaving on a stretcher.
Despite Poirier winning their previous two meetings, the way this one ended means there’s still a chance for fourth meeting between the pair in the future.
